RSNA Radiology
Yan et al., October 2016
Yield of CT Pulmonary Angiography in the Emergency Department When Providers Override Evidence-based Clinical Decision Support

Conclusion: The odds of an acute PE finding in the ED when providers adhered to evidence presented in CDS were nearly double those seen when providers overrode CDS alerts. Most overrides were due to the lack of d-dimer testing in patients unlikely to have PE.

Pediatrics
Anupam et al., May 2016
Implementation of Electronic Clinical Decision Support for Pediatric Appendicitis

Conclusion: Our electronic clinical decision support tool was associated with a decrease in CT use while maintaining safety and high quality care for patients with possible appendicitis.

___

South African Medical Journal
Murthy et al., January 2016
The impact of an electronic clinical decision support for pulmonary embolism imaging on the efficiency of computed tomography pulmonary angiography utilisation in a resource-limited setting

Conclusion: Implementing an electronic CDS for PE significantly increased the efficiency of CTPA utilisation and significantly decreased
the proportion of inappropriate scans.

Raja et al., February 2012
Effect of Computerized Clinical Decision Support on the Use and Yield of CT Pulmonary Angiography in the Emergency Department

Conclusion: Implementation of evidence-based CDS in the ED was associated with a significant decrease in use, and increase in yield, of CT pulmonary angiography for the evaluation of acute PE.

Journal of the American College of Radiology
Blackmore et al., January 2011
Effectiveness of Clinical Decision Support in Controlling Inappropriate Imaging

Conclusion: Targeted use of imaging clinical decision support is associated with large decreases in the inappropriate utilization of advanced imaging tests.

Protecting Access to Medicare Act (PAMA) Highlights

Starting January 1, 2018, Medicare reimbursement for advanced outpatient imaging procedures will be at risk if providers do not meet the requirements of the Appropriate Use Criteria initially set forth in the Protecting Access to Medicare Act (PAMA, 2014).
